The Mustek Limited Quality Assurance Lab was developed to create a sophisticated information and communication infrastructure. The aim of the lab is to supply and research information to supply a better Mecer product, create better product knowledge, and better product support. In return, all departments will benefit from the information generated.
The effective handling of warranty and post-warranty repair services can be a key differential between distributors, especially in South Africa. This allows dealers to concentrate on core business issues, confident that first-class service is being offered to their customers.
Mustek has state-of-the-art repair workshops, and with manufacturers’ commitment to provide the best and latest IT products, spares and training, Mustek is ideally positioned to provide the highest quality of service. The key to support service success is flexibility, designing services to precisely reflect customers’ requirements.
The Mustek Service Centre has a large PC board component level repair facility at Midrand, with advanced facilities for activities such as testing, de-bugging, applying Engineering Change Orders, Bios flashing and EPROM re-programming. Mustek uses the latest technology to provide high quality (ISO 9002), high productivity results.
This includes workshop repair and On-site services, utilising Mustek’s network of countrywide centres and specialist technicians. Whether using consigned or purchased stock Mustek can manage the entire warranty validation, repair and test procedure, and reporting process to meet the widest range of needs.
The Mustek Service Centre draws its extensive multi-vendor experience, exclusively focused on IT systems, to support dealers’ businesses in the future. From this unique position Mustek has developed a comprehensive understanding of the technical requirements and key operating issues surrounding multi-vendor and repair services, business continuity, data management and desktop management.

The Mustek Service Centre has many years of experience in the Service arena. Mustek has invested heavily in training its staff in the latest software and hardware products from many of the world’s leading manufacturers. By doing so, Mustek can offer end-users access to skills that would normally be beyond their reach. From simple “How Do I” queries to complex interoperability issues, Mustek is only a call away.
Following Mustek’s decision in 2008 to expand the business horizontally and reposition itself as a broad-based distributor of electronic products, the product range has expanded significantly. The product is managed by a number of Product Managers, and includes Mecer Computers, Servers, Peripherals and Accessories; Brother Printers, Fax machines and Multi-function Centres; Posiflex Point-of-Sale Hardware Solutions; Toshiba Notebooks; APC UPS, power protection and accessories; D-Link Networking Solutions, IP Surveillance and enterprise level switches; Mustek Surveillance Technologies digital surveillance solutions; Epson Projectors, Printers and Consumables; Fujitsu high-end Scanners; Microsoft Hardware; NEC Monitors and Projectors; and NEC Servers and Storage.
The Marketing department utilises a broad range of above- and below-the-line media tools to market its product ranges, focusing on highlighting the most up-to-date PC technology available and the benefits thereof, to both its end-user and dealer network.
In conjunction with traditional advertising methods such as television, radio, outdoor and print, Mecer also takes advantage of web and digital advertising, and various promotions and sponsorships as well as vitally important communications to the dealer network and end-users.
Dealer Sales are critical to Mustek’s ongoing success. The Mustek Dealer Sales department has a strategic objective to establish long term relationships based on reliability, mutual trust and commitment. Mustek’s future and success is reliant on a client base of successful dealers who will be assisted to become more competitive and aggressive in the market place.
KEY ACCOUNT SALES
Mustek launched its Key Accounts Sales Division in 1995 to engage the public and corporate sectors with Mecer, a local product which meets and exceeds international standards in terms of quality and performance. To meet corporate quality requirements, Mustek employs ISO 9001 and 14001 standards. Mustek embraces the dream of economic empowerment through the network of black empowerment enterprises (BEE) and HDI SMME dealerships through which the Key Accounts Division distributes products to corporate and public sector clients.
The success behind Mustek’s retail division lies in a dedicated team of individuals who understand the importance of long term relationships with customers. These relationships have been built on foresight, commitment, honesty and integrity. The division has strong inter-group relationships and leverages these to satisfy clients’ expectations. The many years of experience have created a unique insight of the retail channel and the importance of building two-way relationships with their clients.
Mustek’ Education Divison has been involved in education development since 1994, with various large scale ICT rollouts to schools throughout South Africa. The experience gained through Public Private Partnerships has been and will be been used to formulate educational ICT solutions which cater to all educators and learners throughout South Africa, irrespective of their socio-economic background or location.
Mustek’s Export division develops and manages the group’s export drive into Africa, which focuses on long-term business relationships, quality and logistics, and gives Mustek the competitive edge. Mustek’s distribution channels and dealer support systems are undoubtedly the quickest and most comprehensive. Typically, two to three top dealers are selected in each country, and support each other through marketing and sales campaigns, assistance with import/export legalities, on-site stockpiling of spares and rapid supply of products by air or road. Mustek can assemble and deliver orders within two days, whereas competitors are often limited by delivery times of six weeks or more.
In mid-2001 Mustek entered into a joint venture with a Nigerian company to assemble PC’s in Nigeria under the Zinox brand. In the latter half of 2003 Mecer established a branch in Kenya (Mecer East Africa), which is the largest IT supply hub in East Africa.
