Samsung has taken the wraps off a new 55-inch transparent display, unveiling the tech at a trade show at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This isn’t really new for the company, they’ve made transparent LCD screens for a while but this is their first take on an OLED version.

They’ve also revealed a mirror display, something that could have serious usage potential in clothing stores in particular. The company is talking up the advantages that these screens hold over similar LCD-sporting items, notably the contrast ratio possible with the display (100000:1 compared to 4000:1) as well as having much improved response times compared to LCD mirror displays.

The new transparent displays, intended to be used as digital signage, are more transparent compared to older models, while having a higher colour gamut. Being OLED, it doesn’t require a backlight either.
