Well, that’s a bit of a turnaround. Recently Samsung stated that rumours of their messaging service, ChatOn, closing down were incorrect. Now, the company has done an about-face and confirmed that ChatOn, which is installed on most Samsung mobile devices, will indeed be closing down, globally.

What’s more, the company has also given a date for the closure around the world – except for the United States, which is a vaguer shutdown date. 1 February 2015 is the day when ChatOn will be no more just about everywhere, though the US has a Q1 2015 shutdown planned.

The company said in a statement “On February 1, 2015, ChatON will be discontinued in all markets except the United States, as we strive to meet evolving consumer needs by focusing on our core services. We remain committed to offering services that cater to our consumers’ lifestyles and add value to their everyday lives.”

So if you’re using ChatOn on a regular basis, now would be a good time to get an alternative plan on the go.
