Samsung has revealed that the company is going to be releasing a new set of portable hard drives. The drives, called the P3 Portable and M3 Portable, are unusual in that they’re different from what Samsung usually releases. And there are no threes involved in the storage capacity.
Instead, the two external drives will feature storage capacities of up to 4TB each. The ‘3’ refers to the transfer speeds, which support USB 3.0 for a blistering data transfer rate of between 4.8 and 5.0 Gbps, depending on the model you snag.
And the P3 and M3 portable are also quite unique. Samsung is billing them as the first single-drive, USB-powered 4TB portable drives to arrive in the 2.5-inch form factor – which is pretty unusual when you take a look at it. That’s a lot of space crammed into a very small space – it’s like a hard drive created in the Harry Potter universe: Bigger on the inside.
The drives will be available in increments from 500GB to the aforementioned 4TB, though Samsung haven’t said when they will be launching here in SA. They will be launching internationally later this month however, so it can’t be far off.
