Have you ever heard the saying that bigger is better? Samsung certainly has and they have the TV sets to prove it. The H5100 series of TVs from the company ship in a collection of sizes but it’s the 48-inch Samsung UA48H5100 that takes the prize for being well priced per inch of screen.

And it’s no wonder, considering that Samsung have given this 5 Series TV a Full HD, 1920 x 1080 screen for your viewing pleasure. Is that was all there was to this TV we would be less impressed but the HyperReal Picture Engine, Wide Color Enhancer Plus and Film Mode support are nothing to sneeze at when it comes to accurate image reproduction. You won’t need to go outside anymore, the resolution in your lounge looks better anyway.

We’ve seen the speaker setup that Samsung have included here, in other H5100 screens. Nothing’s changed, so the 2 x 10W downfiring speakers are in place, with all of the DTS and Dolby features we’ve seen in other models being supported.

You’d expect this TV to contain smart features but you’d need to glance at the price to see that you’re paying for the screen. Adding in the Smart Hub would bump the affordability a bit out of many household’s price ranges and that’s a pity. Everyone should have a 48-inch TV.

Especially since you can connect two HDMI, two USB and one each of the Composite and Component-supporting devices in your home to this screen at the same time. It’s pretty standard for a 5 Series screen but the screen size is anything but.

For a crack at one of Samsung’s 48-inch Full HD panels, we’d gladly forgo Samsung’s Smart TV features. Not that we have anything against those features but Samsung’s screen tech is worth passing it up when you aren’t shopping for a connected device.
