Yeah, we’re probably never going to buy another TV brand ever again. Samsung’s screens are just a bit too good for that to ever happen.

Even if you’re looking at Samsung’s entry-level smart TVs, like the Samsung UA40H5203, you’re probably getting far more than you originally bargained for.

On the purely specs-side, Samsung’s UA40H5203 is a 40-inch HD screen, fitted to a chassis that has quite the slim bezel so you’re looking at more screen than frame.

The screen has a Clear Motion Rate of 60 (this is an entry-level, after all) and it’s a true-HD panel, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The Samsung UA40H5203 features dual down-firing, full-range 10W speakers, for a total of 20W. That’s a lot of speaker for a TV this size.

There are dual HDMI and USB ports, as well as Component, Composite and Ethernet slots at the rear. So you’re supported for pretty much everything.

But then there are the smart features. The Samsung UA40H5203 has WiFi, in addition to that Ethernet connector, and Samsung’s own Smart Hub solution is in place. Which means that you’re getting a decent crop of Samsung’s apps on your screen, from streaming video to social media.

That also means that there’s a built-in media player, if you’re keen on streaming content from a flash drive or HDD (like more South African homes would if they were lacking a useful internet connection.

All in all, the Samsung UA40H5203 is 40 inches of fantastic TV. It’ll do everything you want, and a few things you weren’t aware that you wanted, all for a very reasonable cost.
