A TV screen is just about a must for any home but there comes a time where you’re attempting to balance an excellent display with smart features, especially when you’re looking to start getting a connected home working.

Meet Samsung’s UA40H5100, which is the first step on the road to a truly connected home. This 40-inch TV ticks all of the boxes when it comes to a good screen, a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel backed up by Samsung’s excellent HyperReal Picture Engine. The panel boasts a Clear Motion Rate of 100MHz, which isn’t the best out of the gate compared to Samsung’s more costly offerings but it’s still pretty darned good.

There’s also the Wide Color Enhancer Plus and Film Mode to look forward to but that’s not where this TV ends.

There’s also the sound which is, in typical Samsung fashion, top-notch. Dual 10 watt speakers, arranged in a down-firing configuration, belt out both Dolby and DTS sound tech. DTS 2.0 and Studio Sound, as well as Dolby Digital Plus and AAC support are built in from the start.

So far, so good but that’s not where the Samsung UA40H5100 stops. This 40-incher is also home to some basic smart functions in addition to Samsung’s usual TV interface.

And there’s also the connectivity to look forward to in this Series 5 TV. Dual USB and HDMI ports nestle in the rear, while Component and Composite connections (one of each) are also catered for.

But, as we said, this is just the starting point for intelligent Samsung TV sets. There are far more impressive models on Samsung’s roster but the Samsung UA40H5100 is a fine addition to any lounge or entertainment room all the same.
