Hey, this is something new from Samsung. Meet the Samsung Galaxy J1, a low-cost member of the Galaxy family. This handset comes in one of two flavours, with the prices and a single feature telling them apart. We’re not going to keep you in suspense, you can get the Galaxy J1 in either a dual-SIM or single-SIM version. Up to you.

And it’s low cost. Expect a 4.3-inch display, with a WVGA resolution (480 x 800), make from a TFT panel. Not the highest res phone you’re going to see but it’s not priced that way.

Consider this an entry-level Galaxy handset. That’s what the 1.2GHz dual-core brain-chip is telling us, anyway, and the 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage agrees. But it’s more than entry-level in one way – if you’re thinking of adding extra storage you can expand it by up to 128GB. That’s… impressive.

Samsung’s given users a 5MP/2MP rear-front camera combination, with a shade higher than you’d expect from an entry-level phone.

The battery is Lithium-Ion, a 1850mAh affair that’ll keep a phone with these specs going for a really long time.

Connectivity, you’ll find that there’s Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G on hand, which is always nifty to have in an Android smartphone. Even one that ticks the basic boxes. The Samsung Galaxy J1 does all of that and more and is a perfect way to get that one person you know away from that old feature phone and onto something a tad more… modern. It’s time, don’t you think?
