Review: Acer TravelMate TMP255-MG
Acer’s making some very fantastic hardware and their newer TravelMate models are no exception to this. Take the Acer TravelMate TMP255-MG, for instance, which is a compact yet powerful machine for on-the-road or at-home desktop replacement duties.
What makes this such an ideal computing companion? We can start off with the 15.6 TFT display, which features an Acer-standard resolution of 1366 x 768 – something that helps to keep the price down. A Full HD display would be nice but Acer have made up for the lack in other ways.
Ways like the processor, which in this case is an Intel Core i7 4500U. This is a 1.8GHz dual-core chip with 4MB of cache, which should keep all of your tasks running along nicely. Backing this is 4GB of DDR3 system memory, low-voltage of course.
Storage is a full terabyte of space from a standard hard drive, while there’s also a dual-layer DVD drive in place for your optical storage needs. We checked and yes, you’ll be able to burn discs with it as well.
Acer are including a third-party graphics card and it’s something that we haven’t seen for a while – an AMD GPU. Specifically the AMD Radeon R7 M265, a 2GB video card that should give this unit a spot of gaming grunt in addition to all of its other functionality.
There’s a dual operating system installed from the outset, with Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit editions at your fingertips. It’s always nice to have a choice.
Other features? 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1.3MP webcam and an SD card reader are all part and parcel, while USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports are both offered for users.
VGA and HDMI are your video options, making the Acer TravelMate TMP255-MG a well-rounded and compact (but still pretty powerful) computing unit. Take one with you on holiday already.
