Microsoft is known to lavish attention on the brands under their banner, and the company has recently outright acquired the Gears of War series that has been exclusive to their Xbox consoles since its inception. Guess what’s happening now.

Microsoft have announced that the development studio formerly known as Black Tusk Studios (note the ‘formerly’) will henceforth be known as The Coalition. Why? Because they’re going to be working on the Gears of War series from here on out.

“Beginning today, the Vancouver-based Xbox team working on the Gears of War franchise will be known as The Coalition. What’s in a name? In short, The Coalition speaks to who we are as a team, and what it is we’re working on.”

“A coalition is a team of diverse individuals working together for a common purpose, a concept that we feel describes our studio quite well.”

Microsoft notes that users associate Halo with 343 Studios and Forza with developer Turn 10. They want to do the same thing with Gears of War. And they’re probably going to pull it off.
