Microsoft’s digital assistant is heading to a few new countries, as of last week. Microsoft has announced that Germany, France, Spain and Italy will be able to access Cortana, the virtual helper that lives inside the company’s Windows Phone operating system.

This is just a preview, however, so it’s not the real deal. According to the company “… most of the features in the beta version are available but some are missing or coming soon. For example, flight tracking is not available at this time for alpha. Transit data is currently limited to larger cities and will expand as we have more data.”

But the launch, even in preview form, is good news. It means that we’re edging ever closer to a Cortana launch globally, which means that we’d be able to get some Windows Phone assistance here in SA. And we’re so looking forward to that.
