Microsoft has announced that it is terminating support for Windows 8 as from 12 January 2016. Furthermore, it will also be killing off support for Internet Explorer 8, 9 & 10.

With the latter, what this means for users is that they will still be able to use these older browser versions however Microsoft will stop updating them with bug fixes and security upgrades. However, Internet Explorer 11 which is the last version of the internet browser, will continue to receive security upgrades from the software company. Microsoft maintains that Microsoft Edge, their latest browser which they unveiled in 2015, complies with all web standards and will continue running.

As for Windows 8 users, they can simply upgrade to Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or downgrade to Windows 7.
