Microsoft has, at an event yesterday, revealed a new addition to their Surface Tablet lineup in the form of the Surface Pro 3. This is the largest tablet to come from Redmond to date and Microsoft have tailored their newest announcement to seriously take on the world of notebooks. This could get interesting.
The Surface Pro 3 is a 12-inch tablet and it will be boasting a 2,160 x 1,440 display. In spite of the large resolution and display size, Microsoft have managed to make the Pro 3 a mere 9.1mm thick. That’s verging on smartphone territory in terms of profile and Microsoft have also managed to keep the weight down to 800 grams.
There are several variants of the Surface Pro 3 planned, all of which will be featuring a full-fledged member of Intel’s Core ix series of processors. Top of the line, of course, is set to be a Core i7 Surface Pro 3 which should put it into serious competition with notebooks all over the world.
And Microsoft is counting on that. They’ve also unveiled a new Type Cover and stylus for the Surface Pro 3, claiming that using the tablet with the cover will be much like using a notebook. They’re banking on the Pro 3 becoming a go-to device for those who need a tablet AND a notebook from time to time.
The Surface Pro 3 is currently available for pre-order in the States, there should be detailed concerning availability elsewhere soon.
