Rumours are a bugger, aren’t they? You’re never really sure whether you’re following the right track or not. But here’s an interesting rumour for you, with comes by way of the DigiTimes website.
The website, which has a history of reporting insider info in the tech industry, claims that Chinese company Lenovo is looking at purchasing part of competing company MSI. A very specific part, MSI’s gaming notebook division.
The report cites unnamed sources as saying that Lenovo is hoping to be more competitive in the gaming notebook arena. This would make sense because, as good as Lenovo’s notebooks are, they’re not exactly known for their desktop replacement rigs. And it also fits with Lenovo’s recent behaviour, as they’ve been picking up companies wherever they can to strengthen the brand.
There are a couple of hiccups though. DigitTimes is a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to their info, so this could all be nothing but hot air and MSI’s gaming division is performing quite well. Lenovo would have to make them an extremely lucrative offer to get them to let go of it. We’ll have to wait and see.
