Let’s just start off by pointing out that these details come by way of the States, so it might take a little while for South Africa to see Lenovo’s new ThinkPad Pro notebooks. But the impressive details of the P50 and P70 workstations have become available and they’re.. well, impressive.

Take the P50, which is a 15.6-inch notebook that can be fitted with either a 1080p or a 4K screen. It’ll arrive toting one of Intel’s Xeon E3-1500M (yes, you heard that right), a chip that will let you use up to 64GB of RAM instead of just having it sitting there. It also has Quadro graphics from Nvidia, making the P50 a beast on its own.

The P70 is an even bigger beast, with much the same specs on a 17-inch display, with space for a whole lot of storage.

Look, we know that these ThinkPads are designed for industrial and 3D modelling usage but we’d still like to give them a bash as a personal computer. Just because. American pricing is available and these start (when converted to SA moneys) at R21,000. So perhaps we’ll wait for our boss to buy one after all.
