American multinational tech company, Google,  just launched their online music streaming service Google Play Music in South Africa, following Apple music which also launched locally in June this year. Google Play is an online marketplace for digital music and radio streaming. It lets one create an ad-free interactive radio station and can let users store up to 50 000 songs for free online.

Although Google Play Music has the biggest music content directory on a global scale with over 35 million songs, Apple Music comes second with over 28 million songs. According to Business Tech, local music fans will be able to have an unlimited pass to a huge library of music on all of their devices, including all the major record companies and independent record labels. Google SA has confirmed that it has worked with local licensing organisations to ensure that all artists are compensated fairly.

Subscriptions to Google Play Music are available at an introductory price of R49.99 a month.
